While in-home newborn photo sessions are a beautiful option for some, if you’re like me you might still have the urge to have your newborn photographed studio style. When my son was about three months old, I decided to do a photoshoot here at my home studio with an Argentine theme. A rich rusty background with my son and a few items made by artisans in my home country.

Personally, I love studio style portraits for anyone. Professionals who need a headshot, maternity portraits, or even just-because couple or family portraits. To me, the solid backgrounds and sharp images mean people really come into focus.

But back to the matter at hand. If you are interested in booking a studio style newborn session, what can you expect?

We are Clay County based photographers and I have a small studio set up at home, which is available for portrait sessions. We’re located just between Fleming Island and Middleburg. Or, if you prefer, we can bring the studio to your home. All of my gear is portable. If you’d like the studio to come to you, plan on at least a half day spent working on photos. This will allow plenty of time for my wife and I to set things up and take them down, and for us to take our time with you and your new baby.

After setting up, the actual photo session won’t take too long – usually less than an hour. We might break it up into several short mini-sessions of sorts depending on how baby does. Usually we end up working in short spurts and let baby take plenty of breaks in between photos to nap, eat, get a diaper change, or just chill out with mommy and daddy.

We can change props and outfits during the shoot, but keep in mind that unless your baby is a really solid napper, the best photos will likely be taken within the first half hour.

What about posing and swaddling? We do love swaddles and while studio portraits are posed, we try to keep poses minimal and as natural as possible to keep the shoot low-stress and most importantly safe.

As for props, we have a small selection of props we are happy to provide for the shoot, or you can choose props of your own: your favorite swaddle, a wedding photo of mom and dad, baby’s favorite stuffed animal, etc. We love to include any props you have that hold sentimental value for you.

Interested in a studio session? Give us a call or shoot us an email so we can chat. We’d love to hear your ideas and talk about how we can capture this special time for your family.
